Om Kriya Babaji Nama Aum
On June 17, 2013 catastrophic rainfall nearly 5 times greater than ever before recorded in the Himalayas of India caused the death of more than 12,000 persons, and the destruction of Kedarnath, one of the most sacred places for yogis and devotees of Shiva. Hundreds of kilometers of roads were damaged and hundreds of bridges were completely destroyed. Most of the residents of this most sacred region of India are the descendants of rishis and yogis. They have lost their homes and agricultural fields. They are now dying of hunger, in very large number, because of the difficulties of bringing food to their remote villages.
The Board of Directors of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga Order of Acharyas, a registered tax exempt charity in Canada, USA, India and Sri Lanka decided on June 28 to organize a fundraising campaign for the flood victims in the region around Badrinath, where we are building an ashram, and whose manager, Rohit Naithani distributed food to more than 5,000 stranded pilgrims every day for the first week following the catastrophe, using funds from our construction account. Since this time, $14,000 has been raised in contributions. The Order has adopted the village of Uchiwara, whose houses and fields were swept away by the flood waters. It is located mid-way between Pipalkoti and Joshimutt, but 20 kilometers from the road, up a mountain path. On September 27, all 135 families in this village received a food kit consisting of flour, dal, rice, oil and other edibles, which will enable them to survive during the next two months. The Order is also paying for the construction of six small homes for six families. During the coming months, the Order will continue to offer assistance to local residents, as contributions are received. Local government officials in Joshimutt are helping us with the transportation and the distribution of funds and reconstruction. Rohit and his construction team will restart construction in Badrinath October 8. Although our Ashram in Badrinath was not damaged, we believe that our priority is to bring aid to those who are suffering. Local villagers will need food aid especially until next summer. The government of the state of Uttarkhand is overwhelmed and does not have the means to prevent the starvation of thousands of villagers without outside contributions.
We request that during the coming days, weeks and months, as brothers and sisters in Yoga, send contributions to Babaji’s Kriya Yoga Order of Acharyas by credit card at http://www.babajiskriyayoga.net/english/kriya-yoga-contribution.htm from anywhere in the world. We are happy to inform you that since the beginning of August 2012, the new government in the state of Uttarkhand has ended 4 year old ban on construction in all temple towns in the upper Himalayas, including Badrinath. Consequently, since early August, for the first time in four years, we have made rapid progress on the construction of the Kriya Yoga ashram at Badrinath, Since June 2012, the ceiling galleries above and in front of the 6 ground floor apartments have been completed by the masons, and the pillars and ceiling of the office and bookstore have been built. And most recently, the workers have completed the concrete cement ceilings above the meditation hall, bookstore and office (see the above photos). The pillars for the second floor apartments are currently under construction. Our goal is to complete the meditation hall and these 6 apartments prior to the pilgrimage in October 2014. Completion of the other apartments, the two dormitories with their attached kitchens, and the asana hall, which are all on the second floor, will require more time, but could be accomplished by the fall of 2015 and 2016.
So we can all rejoice at the prospect of its eventual completion, and happily envision future visits and activities there.
We are planning a group pilgrimage there from September 24 to October 14, 2014. Details are at Badrinath Pilgrimage.

"Back from the pilgrimage to India,
it's impossible for me to write about the experience without limiting
it. I feel very grateful for the trip organized by Satchidananda
and Durga. We haven't wasted time, we have been in very powerful
places, well guided in every moment. The group practice of yoga
had been really precious to integrate and reinforce the experiences;
there you can specially apreciate the great value of the techniques
learned. It is an indescribable blessing to meditate in specific
places of India...
Mother India is a land sanctified
by thousand years of spiritual practices of seekers of Truth, in
all its expressions and shades; there one can directly experience
the peace that results from surrendering to a higher power than
one's self, the peace of being part of the mandala of the Divine
Creation, where everything has its proper place. One would wish
to keep this peace forever inside. Through the practice of Kriya
Yoga we can, at least, create India wherever we are.
Next pilgrimage will be in 2014,
so if you are interested in it, you have one year to save money
and organize yourself. The trip, of course, is worth value. I hope
to return again."
